Overview

Sop Saudara Irian stands as a beloved culinary landmark in Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan, offering an authentic taste of South Sulawesi’s rich soup tradition. Located on Jl. Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo, this humble restaurant delivers a comforting atmosphere where locals and visitors alike gather to savor hearty bowls of signature soups, the most notable being their "Brother Soup" or Sop Saudara.

The heart of Sop Saudara Irian’s appeal lies in its thoughtfully crafted broths that brim with spices, delivering a deep and complex flavor profile that’s both robust and inviting. Whether you order Sop Konro Saudara, a spiced rib soup, or the mixed variety, the inclusion of tender meats, rice noodles, and quirky touches like crispy perkedel (potato fritters) enrich every spoonful. Adding a squeeze of lime, as many patrons recommend, introduces a bright contrast that heightens the experience.

The place operates around the clock, making it a reliable spot for late-night cravings or an early meal. The space itself is unpretentious yet warm, emphasizing hospitality with quick, friendly service and a community vibe. Occasionally, the ambiance is uplifted by live guitar music, blending culinary delight with cultural touchstones.

More than just a meal, Sop Saudara Irian offers a taste of local heritage—its recipes reminiscent of Pangkep origins—that resonates with longtime residents and newcomers searching for genuine South Sulawesi flavors. The steady quality over decades, noted by many diners, honors tradition even as it evolves.

Ideal for those who cherish spicy, well-balanced soups rich in texture and aroma, Sop Saudara Irian caters to both families and solo diners seeking a fulfilling and accessible culinary experience in Makassar’s vibrant food scene.

The broth is thick and rich with spices. It contains meat, perkedel (potato fritters), and rice noodles. Put the lime for different tastes. Service is very fast. Affordable place with the portion is just right. Went there 3 months ago.

24 hours operating, easy to find, recommended to try sop sodara with affordable price (there is also sop konro). Best in town you can order meat, lidah or paru or even mix. Friendly staff. Quick serve time. Live music available (pengamen) that plays guitar. Affordable price (approx. 30K per portion).

A Humble eating place and friendly service. A local “Pangkep” cuisine. Have their “Sop Saudara” (Brotherly Soup) over 20s years ago and it feels the same.

I ate two bowls of soup and two plates of rice . Big chunks, can get options from organs or meat only. Get it with salted egg and mix it with chili sauce and lime and it will be perfect. Note that sop saudara is soup with glass noodle, which is different than coto / pallubasa Lots of parking available, however it is located in market area which is bad in traffic. The restaurant itself is really hot and does not have any AC.
